Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

I took the kids to see this movie tonight. I did not know what to expect since it was a sequel. I am usually not fond of sequels but Dreamworks has done ok in the past. Regardless, my children really wanted to see the “I like to move it move it” movie, so off we went.

I actually liked it more than the first one. I think the story line was well thought out and it had a strong beginning, middle, and end. The only issue I had with the movie was the on going story with the little old New Yorker lady but even that at times had me going (it just seemed too much especially for children). There were a few moments that were startling, a few that were sad, but mostly laughs. At the end everyone clapped and all of the children started dancing. I told my husband it freaked me out to see the kids dancing like that it was like they were all in a club… flash forward a whole bunch of years (God willing… like 18 or so lol).

I recommend seeing it in the theater. I actually saw it in IMAX. FYI: IMAX was neat, everything is the same except the screen is bigger, the sound louder, and the picture clearer (so what I mean by “everything” is the layout of the theater lol).

I will be buying it on blu-ray (of course) when it is released. I give this movie 4 1/2 stars!

  1. Yippee LOL. I haven’t seen the whole of the first one yet LOL. Glad to know this didn’t fall short of expectations for you and your kiddos 🙂

  2. Ya know, for a while there, I was comparing myself to Gloria the Hippo.. LOL, but that was when someone had me at a real low. I have found my self-worth, so I don’t do that anymore.. I was simply in a low spot and had to crawl my way out of that hole.. fortunately friends like 6mile, WmWB, and NK gave me helping hands to pull me out of that hole I had fallen into 🙂

  3. I think the movie was ok, It had a lot of adult humor and I really don’t think kids need exposed to some of the humor. The story line was good, not my most enjoyable toon’s though. They should not show n old lady getting hurt, it sends the wrong message, but thats my opinion.

The first movies I saw in IMAX was Matrix Revolutions , Then Day After Tomorrow, a few Discovery documentaries and Open Season 3D. 😛

Ara, everyone has self worth issues, even marty the zebra did when he found out he was not unique. Even I do sometimes, and dig myself a hole. 😛

  4. LOL hehe 🙂

OOOH, you saw Day after Tomorrow in IMAX.. cool.. you should try reading the book.. it is better 🙂

  5. Yes it did have a lot of adult humor but kids (my kids age) do not get that humor so I am fine with it… however, I am with you about the old lady thing … hince my saying “The only issue I had with the movie was the on going story with the little old New Yorker lady but even that at times had me going (it just seemed too much especially for children).”

  6. Hmm.. I’ll wait until it comes out on video OR is moved to the movies at the mall.. ($2) only lol. I went to go watch The Haunting of Molly Hartley, but it was too early, and I got caught up in the books at Barnes and Noble LOL.. I’ll try to go watch the earlybird tomorrow.. like at noon or so 🙂

  7. Hahaha.. I was in Hallmark yesterday.. they have the Madagascar beenie babies LOL.. I just was looking because I almost got one or two for my nieces.. but alas.. it said the infamous “made in china” on the logo.. so I didn’t do it. I thought man, I sure look like the Zebra when I am in a frazzled mood LOL

  8. What isn’t made in China anymore? We need to stop import/export for a little while and focus on builting up our own internal revenue.. but everyone is always focused on the $$ and how to make stuff the cheapest way.. sad. anyway yea Marty the Zebra is cute he is crack a lacken 😉

  9. lol, yeah monty is cool, everything every place is made in china these days. the beenies sound a good gift, smiles. There are a lot of good movies being released soon, I can hardly wait for the sem to get over.

  10. Ohh finally a movie I have seen too!
I, too, wasnt keen on some of the humour. I definitely enjoyed the first one better. This one did have a couple laughs though.

I see there havent been any updates in a couple weeks. Hows it going WMWB? I thought everyone would be around more in winter, but everyone has disappeared 🙂

  11. Hey! Really, you liked the first one better? I really liked the second one more (minus the old lady bit). Winter is actually pretty hetic for me with birthdays and holidays and anniversaries (well one.. mine) plus the usual work .. not to mention not too many great movies come out during the winter. I thought 6mile would have more time to blog some movies and perhaps Ara might too. I am gonna try my best to post a few of the ones I have watched (DVD releases) and perhaps Twilight (if Ara or 6mile do not first).
